Senator Abubakar Kyari: The Expectations and Gains For APC

By: James Bwala

The long awaited APC convention have come and gone. Those who witness the event have a lot of stories to tell of the unfolding political situations and clouds that brought about the emergence of 78 candidates as new executives of the party. The lists also indicated a democratic representation of every state across the country.

Three days to the APC convention I wrote on the permutations and particularly mentioned two candidates coming together from the senate to shape a new beginning for the ruling party. It therefore did not surprise me to see this transformation coming to fruition.

In the words of President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC convention sets the scene for an APC victory in the presidential and general election next year. He also said it is going to be a victory over naysayers who believed the party was divided but are now disappointed.

While the outcome of the convention presented a win-win situation for all the candidates, I was careful not to rush myself into writing this piece but to observed situations and gain more understanding of background. Therefore, I made the whole of Sunday, a day to monitor activities and hear more of the gist from the pains of victory and laughers that comes with it.

From the many stories flying in the aftermath of APC convention, I was able to pick and picture of what the people are going to be expecting especially from the top notch of the party. My focus however, was on the emergence of Senator Abubakar Kyari as the Deputy National Chairman, North.

My words with him earlier was a prayer for victory, which I said in Hausa ‘Allah ya bamu Nasara”. I am happy that the prayer was answered. That is why I am also confident that despite the enormous task before him, Senator Abubakar Kyari would break the Ice like a merchant ship and deliver the goods. Senator Kyari’s political career started in 1996 when he became a founding member and Protem National Secretary of United Nigeria Congress (UNC), which eventually became the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).

His emergence therefore as the Deputy National Chairman, APC north means that Kyari is coming with know-how in handling party matters. Kyari, who obtained a bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Economics from the University of Tennessee, in 1986 and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with emphasis on Finance from Webster University, St. Louis Missouri, USA in 1989, will be coming to the table of planning with vast experience in tactical approach and strategic thinking in the management of party business from his professional background as an administrator and financial guru.

He will also be expected to deploy his understanding of Finance to plan and advice on the handling of the party resources given the background of his contributions to legislative and executive arms of government in his 26 years of resourcefulness in the administration of political matters.

Described as a symbol of intelligence and humility by his colleagues in the Senate, Abuabakar Kyari understands and masters the act of politics in his own style. He has at every stage of his political career defended the expectations on him and turning every opportunity to gains.

This uniqueness has made him a measurable objective for achieving task. This however did not come easy but a character he built in his journey as representative of the people when he was elected to the House of Representatives (UNCP) 1998 and Re-Elected to the House of Representatives (APP) 1999 – 2003.

Words are too wordy from stakeholders to supporters of the ruling party in describing the emergence of Senator Abubakr Kyari and the gains he is going to bring for APC in the days to come. They have also acknowledged the fact that a careful study of wisdom, courage, knowledge, understanding and strength were carefully taken to bring Senator Abubakar Kyari and Senator Abdullahi Adamu to work together for the party in the north.

Indeed, Kyari, who was born 59 years ago. Precisely on 15 January 1963 will technically be the pillar on which 75 year old Senator Abdullahi Adamu will lean on to achieve the gargantuan task that technically will require a workhorse to lead the party to a mouth-watering victory come 2023.

Senator Abubakar Kyari experience will continue to speak at every stage of his new assignment having served as State Treasurer All Peoples Party APP Borno State 1998 – 1999, Hon Commissioner Water Resources, Borno State  2003 – 2005, MD Rural Water Supply Agency, Borno State  2005 – 2007, Hon Commissioner Education, Borno State  2007 – 2008, Hon Commissioner Water Resources, Borno State  2008 – 2010, Hon Commissioner Home Affairs and Information 2010–2011, Hon Commissioner Works 2011 – 2011, Chief of Staff, Government House Borno State   2011 – 2014,  Elected Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria (APC) 2015 – 2019, Re-Elected Senator (APC)  2019 –  2022.

Those who step down to pave way for Senator Kyari’s emergence as consensus candidate for the position of Deputy National Chairman all agreed to his hardworking, intelligence and capability for the job.  With wealth of experience in government and politics, especially since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999, Senator Abubakar Kyari is well positioned to support the Abdullahi Adamu’s leadership in the making of another historical move to consolidate APC’s position in Nigeria’s political space.
