Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on March 16, 2025, when a canoe carrying 11 passengers from Chegama Village’s rice farm to Rwakwa Village overturned, resulting in all occupants being thrown into the water.

Local divers and police launched an immediate rescue operation, successfully saving four passengers.

However, six individuals identified as Zaliya Aliyu, Hajara Mohammed, Amina Yakotsu, Fatima Ahmed, Lare Idris, and Ahmed Mohammed tragically lost their lives. Their bodies were later recovered and buried according to Islamic rites.
