Troops repel Boko Haram attack in Kurnari in Buratai, recover weapons

Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on Kurnari village in Buratai District, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 1:34 a.m. on Monday when a large number of terrorists invaded the village.

According to the source, a patrol team deployed in the village engaged the insurgents in a gun battle, while reinforcements led by the Commanding Officer of 135 Battalion swiftly joined to support the troops.
“The attack was successfully repelled. Our troops also executed two direct fire missions along the terrorists’ withdrawal route from their base.
“During the encounter, one house was partially burnt by the terrorists, but there were no casualties recorded among civilians or troops.
“Although the number of terrorists killed could not be immediately confirmed, bloodstains littered the scene of the attack, indicating heavy casualties on their side,” the source said.

The terrorists reportedly destroyed an electricity pole supplying power to Kurnari and Buratai villages before the attack, plunging the communities into darkness to achieve surprise.
During exploitation after the encounter, troops recovered four belts of PKT ammunition containing 306 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, five RPG bombs, three AK-47 magazines with 30 rounds each, a yellow blanket, syringes, bandages, painkiller injections and the sum of N2,000.

The source added that normalcy had since returned to the community, while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained high.

Gunmen kill four policemen in Kogi, cart away rifles

Armed hoodlums have killed four policemen in separate attacks on police patrol teams in Kogi State, the Police Command has confirmed.
Zagazola learnt reliably that the first incident occurred on Sept. 21 at about 8:00 a.m. when about 20 armed men attacked personnel of 70 PMF Kabba attached to Isanlu Area Command at their pin-down patrol point along Ilafin-Odogbe Road, Yagba East LGA.
Sources said that ASP Umar Suleman and CPL Bitrus Isaac were shot dead in the attack, while the assailants carted away their two AK-47 rifles with 28 rounds of ammunition.
According to the sources, the corpses were evacuated to the General Hospital Mortuary, while joint security teams have intensified surveillance, bush combing and intelligence gathering to track down the attackers.
The sources said in a separate incident, hoodlums attacked 37 PMF personnel at Abugi outpost in Lokoja on the same day at about 11:30 a.m., killing Insp. Johnson David and Insp. Ehinola Oluwole on the spot.
The sources added that the assailants also carted away their service rifles a T06 rifle and an AK-47 with 30 rounds each while a passerby, identified as Isah Gilad, was killed during the attack.
The spurces said the corpses were deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, for autopsy, while all police formations in the state had been placed on red alert and deployed at strategic positions to counter further attacks.

Security forces rescue five abducted victims in Zamfara

Security forces in Zamfara have rescued five abducted victims during a joint operation in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of the state.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that on Sept. 21, at about 6:00 a.m., armed bandits were sighted moving abducted persons from Barikin Daji bush camp to Bayan Ruwa camp, attempting to pass through Garbadu village.
A Joint security personnel with support from Community Protection Guards and local vigilantes were deployed to the scene, where they intercepted the bandits and successfully rescued the victims.
According to sources , the rescued persons are Hauwa’u Lawali, 45; Karima Lawali, 25; Zainab Lawali, 27; Naja’atu Lawali, 15; and Zainabu Lawali, all from Wanu village, Anka LGA.
The sources said the victims were taken to Dauda Care Hospital, Talata Mafara, for medical attention, debriefed and later reunited with their relatives.

Boko Haram attack Yobe village, injure boy, kill livestock

Boko Haram have attacked Dameram Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, injuring a 10-year-old boy and killing livestock.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 11:10 p.m. on Sunday when about 10 armed men, riding on tricycles and armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the residence of one Abubakar Kellumi.
“The suspects demanded directions to Mafa Ward in Tarmuwa LGA. Before the victim could respond, they shot his son, Bulama Ali, 10, in the leg, leaving him with serious injuries.
“They also shot and killed three sheep and a cow before fleeing the scene,” he said.
According to sources, security operatives rushed the injured boy to General Hospital, Babangida, for treatment.
He said six expended shells of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the scene, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
