Yobe To Sustain Transparency and Accountability Leadership- Buni

Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has assured that his administration would sustain the leadership position in due process, transparency and accountability in government transactions in the country.
The governor gave the promise in a response to Yobe State winning the Overall Top Performer Award on State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS), a World Bank Project.
Buni, while receiving the award from the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed,
said his administration would continue to promote transparency and accountability in governance to have value for money on all expenditures.
He said: “We are a state with low revenue and in dire need of infrastructure and services, we have to use our resources judiciously and transparently to achieve our set targets to improve the lives of our people.”
The governor commended the civil servants who believe and share the vision and mission of his administration.

‘I want to specially appreciate our civil servants who are the implementors of government policies and programmes and for being on the same page with the government to achieve this great feat,” he added
Yobe state was presented with the top performer overall best state in the country at a dinner organized for the 36 state governors last week in Abuja.
The state’s performance in All Disbursement Link Indicators scored the overall best state for the ‘Top Performer Award’
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, who spoke on behalf of the Federal Government applauded the state governments for their performance in the ongoing SFTAS programme and producing positive results.
She said the federal government is delighted that the $1.5 billion SFTAS programme supported by the World Bank has promoted institutionalisation of fiscal reforms in the states.
She said the federal government celebrates the success of the SFTAS Programme and the presentation of the awards to best performing States in the successive Annual Performance Assessments was to spur the states to do more.
Other Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) of the State Fiscal Transparency Accountability and Sustainability programme include citizen-based budgets, timely preparation and publication of annual budgets and audited financial statements, as well as, adoption of the National Chart of Account.
Meanwhile, the Director- General, Yobe state Bureau for Public Procurement, Alhaji Samaila Mai Adamu, has attributed the rating of the state as the Overall Best Top Performer state by SFTAS to the leadership role of Governor Mai Mala Buni on Due Process.
He said: “Governor Buni has always insist that every project executed by the state government must be checked by the Bureau to undergo due process for transparency and accountability.
‘I am glad that the Bureau has been performing its functions and responsibilities without hindrance or interference from the executive” he said.
Samaila who recalled that Yobe state also won the best state in Due Process, Accontability and Transparency award from the Association of Public Procurement Practitioners of Nigeria (APPPN), said: “This SFTAS award is a confirmation of the APPPN award that Yobe state has now assumed a new leading status on accountability and transparency.”

Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim in Edo During Search Operation

Troops of Operation MESA, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police, local vigilantes and hunters, have rescued a kidnapped civilian in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Security sources said the troops, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Udomi, responded to credible intelligence at about 9:00 a.m. on April 21 regarding the abduction of a civilian in the Amendokhian general area.
The troops immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and successfully secured the release of the victim.
The victim has since been reunited with family members, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators.

Troops of Sector 1, Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim following a swift response to a suspected terrorist attack in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources disclosed that the troops, deployed at Abaji, acted on a report at about 1:45 p.m. on April 21 regarding an attack at Tumataa community.
On arrival, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun duel, forcing them to abandon the victim and flee the scene.
The victim was successfully rescued and has since been reunited with family members.
The sources added that troops are sustaining operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks.

Troops Arrest Illegal Arms Manufacturers, Recover Weapons in Plateau

Troops have arrested two suspected illegal arms manufacturers during a raid on a criminal hideout in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on April 22 at Gwandanu Village, following credible intelligence on illicit arms production in the area.

According to the sources, the suspects were apprehended while actively engaged in the fabrication of weapons.
Items recovered during the operation include two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, two generating sets, a welding machine, a drilling machine, a hand filer and a toolbox, among other items.
The suspects are currently in military custody pending further investigation.

The sources added that troops have intensified efforts to mop up illegally fabricated arms in the general area as part of ongoing operations to curb criminal activities and enhance security in the state.
