The journey in two years: Tinubu and Shettima’s leadership fosters a narrative of progress that challenges opposition skepticism while positioning Nigeria favorably on the global map.

The past two years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have been characterized by a blend of commendations and criticisms, reflecting the complexities of governance in Nigeria. Their administration has navigated significant challenges, with both leaders striving to assert their roles amid public scrutiny and political opposition. While Tinubu’s leadership is often viewed through the lens of his extensive political experience, Shettima brings a background as a former governor and senator, contributing to the executive’s multifaceted roles in providing good governance to Nigerians.

Despite efforts to consolidate power and implement policy initiatives, their tenure has faced notable backlash. Opposition parties have criticized frequent foreign trips by both leaders as wasteful expenditures that may detract from domestic governance priorities during times of economic hardship. These critiques underscore the delicate balance between international diplomacy and internal accountability.

Tinubu and Shettima’s journey over two years reflects a complex dynamic where achievements coexist with public dissatisfaction. Their administration continues to grapple with managing perceptions while addressing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic issues. The discourse around their governance reveals not only policy challenges but also broader questions about leadership efficacy in contemporary Nigerian politics.

The presidential ticket of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, both Muslims, initially sparked widespread debate in Nigeria due to concerns over its religious composition. Critics feared that the Muslim-Muslim ticket might exacerbate religious tensions or marginalize Christian communities. However, this apprehension has largely been countered by evidence demonstrating that the duo’s political journey has been marked by inclusivity and balanced governance. Rather than emphasizing religion, their leadership underscores competence and national unity, echoing historical precedents where shared religious identity did not hinder political success.

Christian leaders under the National Solemn Assembly (NaSA) have publicly acknowledged a shift in perception regarding the ticket. Initial fears of religious oppression have given way to recognition of equitable representation within government appointments and policymaking processes. This evolving acceptance highlights how effective governance can transcend sectarian divides and foster national cohesion.

Despite initial skepticism rooted in Nigeria’s complex religious landscape, the Tinubu-Shettima ticket exemplifies a promising model where leadership is defined by vision and inclusiveness rather than sectarian affiliation. Their journey thus far challenges entrenched biases against Muslim-Muslim tickets and reaffirms the primacy of competence over religion in Nigerian politics. This shift in perspective underscores the importance of evaluating political candidates based on their policies and ability to address national issues, rather than solely on their religious affiliations.

The ongoing success of their administration serves as a testament to the potential for political unity and progress when leaders focus on shared goals rather than divisive identities. As their administration continues to navigate complex national challenges, the focus remains steadfast on economic development, security enhancement, and infrastructural growth, further reinforcing the narrative that effective leadership transcends religious affiliations. Their administration’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and addressing the diverse needs of Nigeria’s populace continues to dismantle preconceived notions about religious exclusivity in governance.

The call by the Concerned Northern Muslim Ummah for President Bola Tinubu to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima with a Northern Christian as running mate in the 2027 presidential election represents a misplaced political appeal rather than an objective solution to Nigeria’s complex political dynamics. While the group frames its demand as a pursuit of religious balance and national cohesion following the contentious Muslim-Muslim ticket of 2023, such an appeal risks reducing political representation to mere religious arithmetic, potentially exacerbating divisions instead of fostering genuine unity.

This demand can be interpreted as an expression of coalition opposition cloaked in religious rhetoric. By urging Muslim aspirants to step aside for Christian candidates, the group implicitly politicizes religion as a tool for electoral bargaining rather than promoting inclusive governance based on merit and policy considerations. Hence, while religious inclusivity is important, politicizing it in this manner undermines democratic principles and may deepen identity-based cleavages under the guise of fairness.

The emphasis on religious identity as a primary criterion for political appointments disregards the multifaceted challenges facing Nigeria, where effective leadership and governance should ideally transcend sectarian lines. In a nation grappling with economic challenges, security threats, and infrastructural deficits, prioritizing religious identity over competence and visionary leadership could detract from addressing the pressing needs of the populace. Instead, fostering a political environment where leaders are evaluated based on their ability to address systemic issues and drive progress is crucial for Nigeria’s development trajectory.

Contrary to the antics of opposition parties, President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have demonstrated commendable leadership that is gradually placing Nigeria on a transformative path. Despite criticisms and misinformation propagated by detractors, their administration has embarked on bold economic reforms aimed at stabilizing and revitalizing the Nigerian economy. For instance, Tinubu’s decisive removal of the fuel subsidy and realignment of the multiple exchange rate have been pivotal in curbing corruption and fostering fiscal responsibility. These policies reflect a strategic vision geared towards long-term national development rather than short-term populism.

Shettima’s active engagement in international forums such as the US-Africa Business Summit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and enhancing infrastructure development. His diplomatic efforts complement Tinubu’s domestic policies by promoting agribusiness, energy innovation, and sustainable growth. Contrary to false claims suggesting Shettima’s disengagement from his duties, credible reports confirm his proactive role in advancing Nigeria’s interests abroad. Together, their leadership fosters a narrative of progress that challenges opposition skepticism while positioning Nigeria favorably on the global map.

Vice President Kashim Shettima

The Respectful Leadership of Vice President Kashim Shettima

By: Dr. James Bwala

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, stood where respect and integrity define a man and his character. He embodies what can be tagged as pure respect over the rhetorical blend of others who trade where respect and integrity are often overshadowed by ambition and divisive rhetoric. His character exemplifies respect towards everyone he encounters.

Kashim Shettima’s respect for President Tinubu is multi-dimensional, stemming not only from their current partnership in governance but also from the deep-rooted ties they forged long before assuming their respective offices. This relationship is underpinned by a shared vision for Nigeria’s future, founded on mutual respect and understanding.

Shettima regards Tinubu as “Baba,” a title that denotes both familial affection and acknowledgment of his elder status. This appellation reflects a cultural norm within Nigeria, where elders are respected and revered. By embracing this tradition, Shettima establishes a clear message of respect that resonates with the Nigerian populace, reinforcing the importance of solidarity and cohesion among leaders.

In examining the political context of their relationship, it becomes evident that the calls for Shettima’s replacement are politically motivated and lack any substantial grounding. Such discourse serves as a political gimmick, revealing more about the individuals behind these calls than about the efficacy of Shettima’s vice presidency.

In a time of political uncertainty and factional divides, those who conspire to undermine leadership often do so out of self-interest rather than a genuine desire for progress. Shettima remains unfazed by these distractions, demonstrating his commitment to collaboration with Tinubu while upholding the unique bond they share.

The steadfastness of Shettima’s character prompts reflection on the nature of political alliances and their impact on governance. In contrasting Shettima’s demeanor with that of those instigating discontent, we witness a powerful lesson in humility and respect. While others may engage in treachery and betrayal, Shettima chooses to uphold his principles and demonstrate loyalty. It is a refreshing departure from the often cutthroat nature of politics, reminding us that true leadership hinges upon respect and unity.

A significant aspect of Shettima’s respect for Tinubu lies in their shared experiences and struggles. Both men hail from different regions and backgrounds, yet their paths converged through a shared aspiration to elevate Nigeria. Before becoming political allies, they relied on their personal convictions and collective experiences to navigate challenges. This shared history fosters a profound sense of trust that is palpable in their interactions.

As Nigeria endeavors to tackle pressing issues such as economic reform, security, and infrastructure development, the strength derived from their mutual respect becomes increasingly crucial. The anticipated partnership between Tinubu and Shettima beyond the 2023 elections presents an opportunity to further affirm their commitment to the Nigerian people.

The notion that they will continue to guide the nation in 2027 calms the fears of uncertainty and potential leadership vacuums. The frivolous agendas of those who wish for discord only serve to highlight their insecurities and intentions to disrupt the progress they perceive will flow from the ongoing partnership of Tinubu and Shettima. In recognizing the disdain for dissenting voices, it becomes apparent that Nigeria needs leaders united by respect, trust, and a common vision.

As observers of the Nigerian political scene, it is crucial to remain vigilant against agenda-driven narratives that seek to undermine effective leadership. The political elite who seek to capitalize on discontent must be held accountable for their attempts to sow seeds of division among the populace. By publicly supporting the enduring partnership between Shettima and Tinubu, Nigerians can actively resist the wave of political animosity and foster an environment of collaboration focused on progressive governance.

For Vice President Shettima, respect is not merely a rhetorical device; it is a guiding principle woven into the fabric of his leadership style. When he interacts with fellow politicians or citizens, he does so with the recognition that each individual is valued and deserving of dignity. His respectful demeanor stands in stark contrast to the adversarial environment often seen in politics. This alignment between values and actions cultivates an atmosphere conducive to constructive dialogue and effective policymaking.

The role of respect in leadership cannot be overstated. It is the foundation upon which trust is built, enabling leaders to mobilize support and inspire confidence among their constituents. By respecting Tinubu, Shettima not only honors their shared journey but also reinforces a leadership ethos that emphasizes collaboration and teamwork. This synergy ultimately culminates in policies that address the pressing needs of the Nigerian populace and encourage active citizen participation in governance.

Kashim Shettima serves as an embodiment of respect in its purest form within the Nigerian political landscape. His unwavering regard for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu illuminates the power of mutual respect in fostering strong political alliances capable of navigating complex challenges.

As Nigeria stands at a crossroads, it becomes imperative to champion leaders who prioritize respect and integrity over ambition and division. By doing so, the nation can pave the way for a brighter future rooted in cooperation, understanding, and collective progress. Through the continued partnership of Tinubu and Shettima, Nigeria has the potential to thrive, showcasing that respect is indeed a powerful catalyst for positive change in leadership.

President Tinubu Receives Governor Kefas Into APC, Pledges Development Tie With Taraba

VP Shettima describes state as strategic to nation’s food, energy security

By: Our Reporter

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged a stronger development partnership with Taraba State following the formal entry of Governor Agbu Kefas and his supporters into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is just as Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that the state is pivotal to Nigeria’s food and energy security.

Senator Shettima who represented the President at a grand reception to formally receive Governor Kefas to the APC in Jalingo on Saturday said President Tinubu had instructed him to assure the Governor of his place not only in the party, but in the continuing relationship to prioritise the development of the state.

“What makes us different from other political parties is that we believe that nations endure when they learn to recognise their quiet strengths. We believe that Taraba is one of such strengths. It is a land that feeds, powers, and steadies the nation without demanding applause,” the Vice President said.

Conveying President Tinubu’s message, VP Shettima assured Governor Kefas of his full place within the ruling party and a continued relationship focused on development.

“My dear brother, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has asked me to assure you of your place not only in the party, but in our continuing relationship to prioritise the development of our people. He has demonstrated that no region is expendable. No state is ornamental,” he said.

The VP said the event was not about discovering the state’s relevance, but acknowledging its long-established role in national cohesion.

“Today, we are not discovering Taraba. We are just acknowledging what we have always known: its place at the centre of Nigeria’s political stability and future,” VP Shettima stated.

The Vice President said the APC was conceived as a unifying platform designed to bring Nigeria’s diverse regions together around a shared national purpose.

“The All Progressives Congress was built as a meeting point. A place where regions converge. Where differences find direction. Where ambition is disciplined by purpose.”

According to him, Taraba’s entry into the ruling party strengthens that convergence at multiple levels, noting that “to have Taraba firmly within this fold is to strengthen that convergence.

“Strategically. Politically. Economically. This is so because Taraba sits where food security meets energy security. Where fertile land meets flowing water. Where mineral wealth meets industrial possibility,” he added.

He added that the state reinforces the APC’s commitment to balanced national development.

Welcoming Governor Kefas into the party, VP Shettima said the decision reflected a clear understanding of governance as a partnership rather than isolation.

“Leadership, at its core, is the courage to align destiny with reality,” he said. “He understands that governance is not an act of isolation, but an act of partnership. That progress is faster when vision meets structure.”

VP Shettima said Governor Kefas’ decision to join the APC reinforces those principles and strengthens national cohesion.

“Today also showcases what the APC represents: that we are a party that grows by conviction, not compulsion. By inclusion, not exclusion. By performance, not noise,” the Vice President said.

Also speaking at the event, the Senate President, represented by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, congratulated the Taraba Governor for taking the best decision for the state by joining the governing APC.

“By this decision, progress is brought to the state. This will enhance agriculture, infrastructure and the economy of Taraba state,” he stated

Barau said it was a wise decision that would bring prosperity to the state, noting that the entire National Assembly is in support of the decision.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, thanked Governor Kefas for saving the state from what he called “the sinking PDP.”

He said moving from such a sick party is the best decision he has made, describing it as a move to accelerate progress, development and prosperity in the state.

“The best thing is to align with the centre so that all the good things and policies happening at that level will come to Taraba State,” he noted.

In his remarks, the Governor of Taraba State, Kefas, commended the security operatives in the state for ensuring the safety of the citizens, saying his defection to the APC, is not about playing politics or dwelling in the past but to live with purpose.

He noted that while some may see his defection as perversion or ambition, his decision is for the youth, for infrastructure, for the elders and the progress of Taraba State.

The Governor said Taraba must move into the center to benefit from the policies and the programs of our President of the present government.

Also, Ekiti State Governor, Hon. Abiodun Abyomi Oyebanji, who represented the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, said Governor Kefas has made the best decision by joining the progressives to attract dividends of democracy to the state in terms of agriculture, infrastructure and everything good for Taraba State.

Highlight of the event was the handing over of the APC flag to the Governor as a sign of being the leader of the party in the state.
