COAS SALUTES THE SACRIFICES OF FRONTLINE TROOPS AT CHRISTMAS, PLEDGES IMPROVED WELFARE

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has commended troops of the Joint Task Force Operation HADIN KAI, for their gallantry, sacrifice and dedication to duty. The COAS made the commendation during the Christmas luncheon organised for troops in Maiduguri.
Addressing the troops, the COAS noted that the luncheon, which is usually held during major festive seasons, helps to bring troops together in a celebratory atmosphere to appreciate their sacrifices and commitment to duty. He further remarked that the event enables the Army to give troops in the frontlines a semblance of what it would have been if they were back home with their families.
The Army Chief appreciated the troops for their significant contributions in the collective effort to defeat terror networks and other violent extremist groups that seek to undermine the unity, peace, and security of the nation.
General Oluyede charged the troops to work towards the complete defeat of the nation’s adversaries as the nation transits into the year 2025 in order to create the enabling environment for peace, socio-economic development and prosperity of the country.
In line with his Command Philosophy “To consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a Well-Motivated and Combat-Ready Force that can effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”, the COAS reiterated his commitment to consolidating all ongoing viable welfare schemes and instituting new ones to make the troops proud of their chosen profession and remain committed to duty.
He urged the troops to renew their dedication by gleaning from the lessons of the season in showing love, hope, healing, and renewed vigor. General Oluyede conveyed the commendation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and appreciation of Nigerians to all troops fighting in defence of the country.
In his goodwill message, the Governor of Borno State Professor Babagana Umara Zulum commended the troops for their sacrifices in ensuring peace and security in Borno State, the North East zone and the nation at large. The governor, who spoke through the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Dr Bukar Tijani, paid tribute to the troops who paid the supreme price in ensuring peace and security in Borno State. He assured of the Borno State Government’s continued support for the ongoing operations to restore peace and stability in all parts of the state.
In his welcome address, the Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shuaibu, remarked that the luncheon fosters camaraderie and provides the opportunity to recount collective achievements and challenges over the past year. He appreciated the COAS for visiting the frontline troops twice in three weeks, noting that it underscores his commitment to raise the morale of troops of Operation HADINKAI Kai. He assured the COAS that the troops will remain steadfast in their resolve to restore normalcy in the North East Region, adding that the troops are highly motivated and committed to achieving the overall mandate of the Joint Task Force.
Demonstrating his commitment for improved welfare of troops, the COAS performed the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of two blocks of 30 family accommodations in Maimalari Cantonment before departing Maiduguri.

Four bandits neutralized, one civilian killed in Zamfara attack

At least four armed bandits killed during a clash between local vigilantes and bandits in Garagin Mayanchi village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Jan. 4 at about 11:00 p.m., when armed bandits ambushed villagers returning from escorting a groom in Mayanchi town.
According to the sources, a serious exchange of gunfire ensued between the bandits and local vigilantes. One villager was shot dead during the attack, while the vigilantes reportedly killed four of the attackers.
The sources added that by the time authorities arrived at the scene, the bandits’ corpses had been removed by their colleagues, while the villager’s body was taken to a hospital and later released to his family for burial.

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed Government Secondary Schools (GSSs) Fikiyel and Balbaya.
The governor also flagged off the construction of a new High Islamic College in Fikiyel Bayo Local Government Area.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, Governor Zulum said the High Islamic College was designed to integrate out-of-school children, particularly Almajirai, into a formal and modern educational system.
The college will run a hybrid curriculum based on the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), combining core Islamic education with contemporary science, technology and humanities.
“it is our sincere hope that the people of Fikayel will benefit from this school because we are targeting the enrollment of out-of-school children into this school so that learners can learn Arabic, and then we shall streamline the non-formal educational (Sangaya System) into the formal educational system by introducing intensive literacy, intensive numeracy, digital literacy and above all, vocational training,” Zulum said.
Briefing the governor, the Commissioner for Education, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe, stated that High Islamic Colleges were already built in 20 local government areas of the state
In a related development, Prof. Zulum has directed the State Ministry of Education to the complete digitalisation of all public secondary schools across the state.
The directive is for integration of digital tools, e-learning platforms and smart classroom technologies with a view to enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.
The two newly inaugurated secondary schools, Fikiyel and Balbaya, are located in Bayo Local Government Area. They comprise 20 modern classrooms, laboratories, a library and sporting facilities each.
Governor Zulum was assisted by the senator representing Southern Borno, Mohammed Ali Ndume; APC state chairman, Bello Ayuba; House of Representatives member, Engr Bukar Talba; the Commissioner for Education, Engr Lawan Abba Wakilbe; the Commissioner for Works, Engr Mustapha Gubio; the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, President Usman Tar; Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Sugun Mai Mele and other senior officials of the Borno State Government.

Police officer killed, others abducted as bandits seize firearms in Zamfara

A police officer was killed and another abducted, along with ten villagers, after bandits attacked Farin Ruwa village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, seizing serviceable firearms in the process.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the corpse of ASP Samaila Sule, along with five villagers, was recovered at the scene following the attack reported earlier on Jan. 4.
The sources said the officer’s AK-47 rifle, and 30 rounds of live ammunition, was carted away by the attackers.
Insp. Aliyu Ibrahim, also abducted with his AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds, remains missing, along with ten villagers who were taken during the incident.
Efforts are ongoing to trace the missing officer and civilians, as well as to recover the stolen firearms.
