The Deputy Governor of Borno State, H.E. Umar Usman Kadafur, has officially assumed responsibility as the overseeing Commissioner of the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development. This marks a strategic move by the state government to strengthen the livestock sector, reflecting its importance to the economy and food security in the region.
According to the deputy governor the ministry is expected to address key challenges, enhance livestock production, and support pastoralists and farmers, contributing to the overall development of Borno State.
The Deputy Governor said my leadership in this capacity highlights the government’s commitment to prioritizing agricultural and livestock growth.
Borno State Deputy Governor, H.E. Umar Usman Kadafur, in his capacity as the overseeing Commissioner of the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development, has urged all ministry staff to demonstrate renewed commitment to their duties.
He emphasized the importance of their roles in achieving the ministry’s goals and contributing to the advancement of the livestock sector in Borno State.
Following his address, the Deputy Governor toured all the departments and units within the ministry to familiarize himself with its operations, assess its current state, and identify areas requiring immediate attention.
This proactive approach he said underscores his dedication to ensuring the ministry operates efficiently and meets its objectives.
In an interview with journalists, the overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Livestock Development, Borno State Deputy Governor H.E. Umar Usman Kadafur stated that the ministry would undergo a comprehensive overhaul. He emphasized that modern facilities and equipment would be introduced to enhance its operations and ensure optimal performance.
The Deputy Governor highlighted the critical role the ministry plays in the state’s economic development, particularly in improving livestock production, supporting herders, and promoting sustainable practices. He reassured staff and stakeholders of the government’s commitment to equipping the ministry to meet contemporary challenges and drive growth in the livestock sector.
This modernization initiative aligns with the state’s broader vision for agricultural and economic development as well as the 25 year development plan initiative the deputy governor maintained.
Borno State Deputy Governor H.E. Umar Usman Kadafur pledged to revive and restore all non-functional machinery within the ministry and assured that obsolete equipment would be replaced with modern alternatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.

The deputy governor was received at the Ministry by the Special Adviser to the governor on Livestock development, Directors and senior management staff.

Bandits kill hunters’ leader in Benue

Suspected bandits have killed the leader of hunters in Tine Nune community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue.
Zagazola learnt that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, happened while the victim, identified as Hilenen Terzungwe, was on patrol with five others along Biriji village.
Terzungwe sustained severe machete cuts during the attack and was rushed to a medical facility in Tine Nune, where he later died while receiving treatment.
His remains have since been deposited at the General Hospital, Zaki-Biam.
Security has been strengthened in the area to forestall further attacks, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Security forces move to avert reprisal after killing of herdsman in Benue

Security forces have intensified patrols and peace-building efforts in Anyiatse village, Jato-Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue, following the killing of a Fulani herdsman by suspected youths of the community.
Zagazola learnt that the incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, has heightened fears of a reprisal attack by Fulani groups in the area.
Sources said the herdsman was attacked and killed in the bush, sparking tension among residents and neighbouring communities.
In response, security personnel were deployed to the area to forestall further violence, while traditional rulers and stakeholders have been engaged in dialogue to restore calm.
The measures, according to local authorities, are aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order as investigations into the killing continue

Gunmen kill five, burn houses in Mangu LGA, Plateau

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias have killed five persons and burnt 10 houses in Tim village, Chakfem District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau.
Zagazola Makama report that the attack, which occurred on Tuesday at about 4 p.m., saw the assailants storm the community, shooting sporadically before setting thatched houses ablaze.
Local sources said the victims’ corpses had been evacuated for burial, while the injured were receiving treatment in nearby health facilities.
Community members disclosed that the assault might have been carried out in retaliation for cattle allegedly rustled in the area.
Troops of the Special Task Force (STF) were deployed to the scene and engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to flee, with some believed to have sustained bullet wounds.
Residents said calm had returned to the area on Wednesday, though the village remains tense as investigations continue and efforts are being made to apprehend those behind the attack.
