SSANU North-East Re-Elects Isa, Endorses Incumbent National President

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) of North-Eastern Zone, has endorsed the incumbent National President of the Union, Comr. Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, as the next National President in the forthcoming National Delegates Conference.
The endorsement and re-election of Comr. Alh. Isa Audu was done today 28th October, 2024 during a Special Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) Meeting of the North-Eastern where Comr. Isa returned elected and unopposed as the SSANU Vice President (North-East) that took place at the Yobe State University
While declaring the meeting open, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura, said the struggle is positive as there are more to be done in the university systems in the country, assuring that Yobe State University will do everything possible to support SSANU and other sister unions for the development of the University.
Prof. Daura then described the National President as a revolutionary leader that revived the union in the recent years of his stewardship.
In his address, the National President of the Union, Comr. Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim said SSANU is doing everything humanly possible to restore the good image of the universities and foster educational development in the country.
The president said the recent declaration of the industrial action by the union is as a result of the negligence of the government towards Nigerian universities and education in general in the country.
In his acceptance speech, the Vice- President (North-East), Comr. Alh. Isa Audu describes his re-election by the delegates as a testament to their collective commitment to advancing the interest of the union and promoting the welfare of members.
Comr. Isa pledged to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability and inclusivity; foster constructive dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders as well as prioritizing the needs and concerns of the SSANU members.
He then commended the union National President, Comr. Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim and other union leaders for guidance and vision have inspired him to strive for excellence.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of SSANU, Yobe State University Branch, Comr. Ibrahim Liman, appreciated both the university management and the leadership of the union for hosting the Special Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) of North-East in the university.
Awards for excellence were presented to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mala Mohammed Daura, Registrar, Dr. Kalli Yusuf Alkali Gazali, National President of SSANU, Comr. Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, National Vice President SSANU North-East, Comr . Alh. Isa Audu, among others.

Two killed as suspected herders attack farmers in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two farmers following an attack by suspected bandit herders in Naka area of the state.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on Oct. 3, 2025, when the victims were returning from their farm.
Sources said that one Odiua Oshinyo of Tse Adiagh, Naka, had reported to the police that his son, Terkimbi Gyaluwa, 25, returned home and narrated how they were attacked by armed herders while working on their farm.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Naka mobilised patrol and tactical teams to the scene, where two corpses were recovered and deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary, Naka.
Sources said joint patrols have been intensified in the area to forestall further attacks and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.

Two die in family dispute over traditional title in Niger

Atleast two persons killed following a violent clash over a family traditional title dispute in Gbajibo village, Mokwa Local Government Area.
Sources disclosed that the incident occurred on Oct. 3, 2025, after a heated argument between Iliyasu Umar Sayidi, 30, and Ahmadu Isah, 25, both of Bukka village, escalated into a fight.
According to the sources , the two men engaged each other in a brawl and stabbed themselves with a dagger, inflicting severe injuries.
They were rushed to the General Hospital, Jebba, where they were confirmed dead on arrival.
Police operatives visited the scene, photographed the corpses, and deposited them at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The case is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), sources said.

Gunmen kill two, injure one in Osara Dam community, Kogi

Gunmen have killed two persons and injured another during an attack on a Fulani settlement near Osara Dam in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2025.
According to the sources, about ten armed men invaded the camp, shooting sporadically and killing two residents identified as Idris Isyaku, aged 50, and Abdulrazaq Jimoh, aged 40.
One other victim, Alhaji Tashi Isyaku, sustained machete injuries and was taken to NIOMCO Hospital before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, for further treatment.
Security forces have intensified efforts to apprehend the terrorists.
