Two drug kingpins convicted, sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

The National Drug Law Enforcement Against (NDLEA) has gotten two drug kingpins convicted and sentenced by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
A statement on Tuesday by the spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency Femi Babafemi read that: “Two notorious drug kingpins: 37-year-old Ajetsibo Emami popularly known as ‘Warri Kinsman’ and 51-year-old Solomon Akpomuai have been convicted and sentenced to a combined 10 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Lagos.”
He said Emami was arrested in Ikeja Lagos on Saturday 28th June 2025 after NDLEA operatives dismantled his drug trafficking network in a three-day operation leading to the arrest of three other suspects.
He added that recovered from Emami’s network were 24 jumbo bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 414.2 kilogrammes.
Babafemi said the bust of Emami’s drug ring followed credible intelligence on his attempt to move the shipment to Lekki area of Lagos, from where it will be distributed to other parts of the state and across the country.
He said Emami was subsequently arraigned before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court 8 Lagos in charge number FHC/L/636C/2025 bordering on dealing in illicit drugs.
In his ruling delivered on Monday, the trial judge convicted Emami on the one count charge filed against him by NDLEA prosecutor Assistant Commander of Narcotics Buhari Abdullahi, sentencing him to six years in prison with an option of N50 million fine in lieu of jail.
Babafemi said, in his case, Solomon Akpomuai was first arrested by men of Customs Service along Shagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway with 2,197.8 kilogrammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis on 3rd June 2025 and transferred to NDLEA on 16th June after which he was arraigned in charge number FHC/L/635C before Justice Dipeolu for trafficking illicit drugs in large commercial quantity. Also delivering his judgement on the matter, the trial judge convicted and sentenced Akpomuai to four years in prison with an option of N50million fine.
Meanwhile the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) has described the conviction of the two drug kingpins as an indication that Nigeria will sooner than later surmount the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking as a result of the positive outcomes of the current balanced approach to the agency’s drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
He commended the judiciary, NDLEA officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of the cases as well as other stakeholders for their commitment to the cause of a drug free country.

One Killed As Troops Foil Fulani Bandits Attack on Nyerwai, Rayidi Communities in Plateau

Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have foiled an attack by Fulani Bandits on Nyerwai and Rayidi communities in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 11:05 p.m. on August 12, 2026, when troops deployed at Dorowa Babuje responded to reports of sporadic shootings in the two communities.
Upon arrival at the scene, the troops discovered the lifeless body of a 37-year-old man identified as Danya Nuhu.
The troops also rescued 28-year-old Abednego Davou, who had sustained gunshot wounds, alongside three cattle that were also injured by gunfire.
Preliminary findings indicated that the attack was carried out by suspected armed militias, who fled into the surrounding area upon sighting the advancing troops.
The injured victim was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, for medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing attackers.
The military has continued to intensify patrols across the Operation Enduring Peace Joint Operations Area, particularly around vulnerable communities, schools, places of worship and other critical national infrastructure, to prevent further attacks and maintain security.

Criminal Tiv Militia Kill Dangote Truck Driver, Woman in Benue

A Dangote truck driver and a woman have been killed by suspected criminal militia operating along the Kyado–Jootar road in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The victims were reportedly found dead inside a Dangote truck during a night fighting patrol by troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE.
A security source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about midnight on August 13, 2026, when troops conducting a night patrol along the Kyado–Jootar road discovered two lifeless bodies inside a Dangote truck with registration number OPL-1B-029 at Igbayima.
Preliminary findings indicated that the victims had been killed by a gang of suspected criminal Tiv militias believed to be involved in kidnapping for ransom in the area.
The identity of the woman and further details about the circumstances surrounding her presence in the truck were not immediately available.
The troops also recovered 11 empty casings of 7.62mm Special ammunition from the scene, indicating that firearms were used in the attack.
Following the discovery, the bodies of the deceased were evacuated to the mortuary in Kyado, while the incident was formally reported to the police for further investigation.
Troops are currently working to track down the perpetrators.
The attack point to the grim situation where commercial vehicles and other road users travelling along the Kyado–Jootar axis, where criminal Tiv elements have reportedly continued to target commuters and motorists.
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE are expected to sustain night fighting patrols and other security operations along the route to track down the perpetrators, prevent further attacks and reassure residents and road users of their safety.

Man Killed by Unknown Assailants in Plateau

A 45-year-old man, identified as Mr Mabur Simon, has been killed by unidentified persons in Maori Village, Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A military source told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on August 12, 2026, when troops of Sector 5, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack and killing in the community.
The troops mobilised to the village and confirmed that the incident had occurred.
The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, while security personnel have commenced investigations to identify those responsible and establish the motive behind the attack.
The investigation is ongoing, as troops continue to maintain vigilance in the area to prevent further incidents and reassure residents of their safety.
